Harrington joined the marines after 4 years of collage competitive shooting. He wanted to put his marksmanship skills to good use in the military so he joined at the age of 23. He started out as a con commissioned officer but worked his way through the ranks to earn a commission as an Officer, he has earned the rank of First Lieutenant.
He has made many friends in his long career. One of his close friends is a Capitan Rick Baird, the CO of a Marathon class Battlecruiser, The Saganami. Harrington had been attached to Baird's ship as the senior noncom for the recon element of the battalion that was stationed aboard the CB. He met him on the Saganami's firing range. And took a bet from the Capitan that Harrington won and they have kept in touch ever sense.
All of this was when the covenant were still the Major threat to Humanity. It was a sad day when the people started revolting against the UNSC. Harrington was sent in with his squad to nip one of the revolts in the bud before it got out of hand. He would never forget the day he took a human life.
